Making Your Tax Dollars Count

The State Auditor’s office presented the Hilliard City School District with the “Making Your Tax Dollars Count” award for the fiscal year 2008 audit. The award recognizes government agencies for “their commitment to strong financial accountability and for being trustworthy stewards of taxpayer dollars.” Fewer than 5% of all Ohio government agencies receive this award.

Kindergarten Registration/Screening

If your child will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30th 2010, he/she is eligible to start kindergarten. Each child needs to be registered in his/her “home” school, based on current school boundaries. If you have completed the kindergarten registration process, you have been assigned a specific screening date and appointment time. Please plan to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment time, as our schedule depends on starting promptly. The screening process will take approximately one hour.

Remaining school year offers initiatives, challenges

Information Regarding All-Day Kindergarten

The State of Ohio‘s new budget bill HB 1 requires school districts to offer all-day kindergarten beginning with school year 2010-11. However, recent action in the statehouse provides for a one-year waiver of this requirement for districts who request it.

The implementation of all-day kindergarten in the district is estimated to cost an additional $1.3 million in salaries and benefits and require an additional 23 classrooms. Due to the financial strain and space challenges, the Hilliard City School District has applied for the one-year waiver. Therefore, the district intends to continue offering its current kindergarten programming in the coming school year.
